The Emergency Care Assistant supports paramedics and emergency medical technicians in the delivery of urgent and emergency care. This role involves providing basic life support, patient transport, and assisting in various emergency medical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

1. *Patient Care:*

- Assist in assessing patients' conditions and providing basic life support.

- Administer first aid and basic emergency treatment under the supervision of a paramedic or EMT.

- Monitor patients' vital signs and report changes to senior medical staff.

- Provide emotional support to patients and their families during emergencies.

2. *Transport and Logistics:*

- Safely transport patients to healthcare facilities using an ambulance.

- Ensure the safe and comfortable transfer of patients to and from the ambulance.

- Assist in the loading and unloading of patients on stretchers and other equipment.

3. *Equipment and Supplies:*

- Maintain and prepare emergency equipment and supplies, ensuring they are clean, functional, and ready for use.

- Restock the ambulance with necessary medical supplies and equipment after each call.

- Report any equipment malfunctions or deficiencies to the appropriate personnel.

4. *Documentation and Reporting:*

- Complete accurate and timely documentation of patient care and treatment provided.

- Assist in preparing reports on the nature of emergencies and the care given.

- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with legal and organizational guidelines.

5. *Health and Safety:*

- Follow all health and safety guidelines and protocols.

- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

- Participate in decontamination procedures to prevent the spread of infection.

- Assist in emergency situations, including evacuations and administering first aid.

6. *Training and Development:*

- Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.

- Keep up to date with current best practices and protocols in emergency care.

- Assist in training new ECAs and other staff members as required.

7. *Team Collaboration:*

- Work collaboratively with paramedics, EMTs, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient care.

- Participate in team meetings and debriefings.

- Provide support and assistance to colleagues during emergency situations.

Qualifications:

- *Education:*

- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.

- Completion of an accredited Emergency Care Assistant training program.

- *Experience:*

- Previous experience in a healthcare or emergency services role is advantageous but not essential.

Skills and Abilities:

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.

- Basic knowledge of emergency medical procedures and protocols.

- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks.

- Basic computer proficiency for documentation purposes.

Working Conditions:

- Varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

- Exposure to physically and emotionally challenging situations.

- Work in a variety of environments, including indoor and outdoor settings, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.

Physical Requirements:

- Ability to lift and move patients and equipment.

- Capability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and physical stamina.

- Ability to handle long periods of standing, bending, and kneeling.
