Hi,

My name is Tom and I tutor a range of subjects at GCSE and A Level, including:

- English Language and Literature
- Film Studies
- History
- Geography

I have tutored over one hundred GCSE and A-Level students (both individuals and groups) in the past five years. I have also worked with several home-schooled and neurodiverse students in the UK, IGCSE/IAL candidates abroad and schools on after-school tutoring programmes. I currently work with several English local authorities preparing students for their exams. This work has taken place alongside my university teaching at Newcastle University on philosophy, history and arts modules.

I bring extensive academic expertise and detailed knowledge of the curriculum and mark schemes to all my lessons.

I can help with:

- exam preparation and revision
- reviewing of classwork and coursework
- homework assistance
- general tutoring and teaching of curriculum
- critical thinking and research/study skills

I offer online services (Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts). I usually use Google Docs with students to create a space where we can both take notes, plan and write essays together. These documents are organised by subject matter and are full of the student's own writing, essay examples, plans, diagrams, pictures and extracts etc. to aid learning and recall.

In the past, I worked in Bologna, Italy as an English teacher and during this time I taught adults and children of all ages and levels. I taught at many multinational corporations as well as giving group and individual classes at my language institute. I especially enjoyed going into schools (primary, middle and high), meeting the children there and providing a fun but academically challenging course.

I live in North Shields. I'm currently finishing at PhD at Newcastle University. I have an MA in Modern History from Durham University, a First Class Bachelor's degree from the University of Warwick and an enhanced DBS check. I also have Newcastle University's Teaching in Higher Education qualification and a TEFL certificate.
