Hello!

My name is Deborah, a successful private tutor for students and adult professionals. I am pleased to relaunch my premier English language and English literature tutoring service. I am offering lessons in English from Key Stage 1 all the way up to early Key Stage 5 (A Level standard). Lessons will take place online via Zoom, either for one hour, or two sessions of forty-five minutes a week. Some lessons may take place face-to-face, depending on location.

What do I offer?

My tutoring sessions will help you master a particular area (or more) of English. This can be an area you struggle with, such as the rules for commas; or it can be something you would simply like to improve.

How will you achieve this?

1- We identify the particular area you wish to work on
2- I test your existing knowledge
3- We examine your weak areas
4- We study that area from the foundations upwards
5- I test you until you have full mastery over the topic
6- We move onto a different topic
7- I may later conduct random tests to ensure you still have this area mastered

How does this work in practice?

Many pupils want help with examination preparation, but don't have a strong understanding of, for example, the set book or play for the exam.

A typical lesson with me might look like this:

1- Area to work on: learning the key themes of a Shakespeare play
2- Test: Write down all the key themes in the play
3- Examine weak areas: I identify what you've missed, and/or what else you could have considered
4- Study: We examine the play, act by act
5- Test: I test you again on the relevant themes
6- We move onto a different topic
7- Test: I include random tests later on to ensure mastery

We can apply this method to any other aspect of English that you wish to study. All you need is patience, and an ability to concentrate on one thing at a time.

1- Key Stage 1
2- Key Stage 2
3- Key Stage 3
4- Key Stage 4 (GCSE)
5- Key Stage 5 (AS Level, English Literature in particular)

Examination boards:

1- AQA
2- Edexcel
3- OCR

During examination prep, I will focus particularly on the 20-mark and 40-mark questions of both the English language and English literature papers.

How are lessons carried out?

Most lessons take place on Zoom. Once we have agreed a date and time, I will send you a Zoom invitation the day beforehand.

How much do lessons cost?

1 hour= £33.00
2 lessons @ 45 minutes each= £24.75 + £24.75= £49.50
