Hi! My name is Mary (BA Hons, MSc Psychology, TESOL certified) and I'm a qualified, experienced native English teacher based in Sheffield, UK, offering lessons online. I have over 12 years teaching experience and I offer informal, personalised lessons which are tailored to your individual needs.

I teach:

- IELTS Exam Preparation - IELTS lessons focus closely on writing, speaking, topic-related vocabulary, and general exam skills that will help you improve your grade. I have had excellent feedback from all students, many who have gone up one grade (Eg. 5.5-6.5) in just a few weeks.

- Conversational English - helping you to build confidence speaking and writing in English, whether it's for travel purposes or for everyday life. I can help you learn relevant expressions and expressive adjectives and idioms to sound natural!

- English for Academic Purposes. I have a great deal of experience in helping students with their academic work, from creating clear arguments, using appropriate academic English, referencing, report and essay writing. I also offer Proofreading and Editing services in Psychology and English from GCSE to Degree level.

- Business English - I specialise in teaching professionals. I have experience helping students (who work in fields such as Law, Medicine, Education, Health and Business Management) practice public speaking skills and prepare for important presentations, learn how to write professional emails, communicate and network in English successfully.

- CAE and FIRST exam preparation, focusing on high level grammar and vocabulary, as well as vital exam skills.

- Grammar - I can make complex areas of grammar approachable with practical and useful activities to help you use the correct grammar in both conversation and writing.

- Pronunciation - focusing closely on areas of pronunciation such as stress, intonation, tone and mastering difficult sounds, to sound more like native speaker.

- Unlike many people offering English lessons on Gumtree, I am a full-time, professional, qualified English tutor with a great deal of experience and have successfully built a career tutoring online. Having taught students from Beginner to Upper Intermediate levels, in Universities, schools and private language centres both in the UK and abroad, I have learnt to be flexible in my approach to teaching, and can adapt my style to suit students with all kinds of different learning needs and backgrounds.
