Location: Heathrow Airport

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £14.21 p/h (Annual Salary of £29,558.31 FTE, rising to at least £31,354 after 2 years’ service)

What hours are available?

Core Combination (Full Time): Mixed early (starting as early as 04:15), late (finishing as late as 22:45) and some night shifts (e.g. 21:00 - 06:00). Four days on, two days off. Shifts lasting approximately 8.5 hours

Early (Full Time): Mixed early starting between 04:15 and 05:45. Finishing between 12:45 and 14:30. Shifts lasting approximately 8.5 hours

Once you’ve completed your training, you’ll know your shifts 12 months in advance, so you can plan around them. Swaps are often possible, providing even greater flexibility, but it's important that you're available for all shifts on the pattern you apply for.

Your role will involve

Like everyone here, you‘ll be passionate about creating the best Heathrow experience for all our passengers. Throughout each shift, you’ll be greeting people, patrolling the airport, monitoring secure areas and generally putting everyone at ease.

You’ll also be carrying out searches and safety checks on passengers, colleagues, and the items they bring through the airport. Our Security Officers only search people of their own gender, of course. Which is why we recruit separately for male and female roles.

Yours will be the friendly face that offers passengers a warm welcome as well as a constant reassuring presence, alert to everything that's going on around you, ready to spot potential threats and responding rapidly if and when you do.

These skills are essential

The qualities we look for are more common than you might imagine. You don’t need security experience or an SIA licence. We’ll give you six weeks of full-time training on full pay before you start in your role, along with ongoing mentoring and support to ensure you continue to thrive.

What you will need, however, is:

* a warm, engaging personality and positive, friendly approach

* sharp attention to detail

* fluency in written and spoken English – additional languages are a bonus

* the physical fitness to cope with long periods of standing, sitting, bending and walking

* full colour vision and hearing that meets our required standard

You must also be:

* 18 or older when you begin your training

* a UK resident of three years standing, with the right to work in the UK

* happy to complete our pre-employment medical, criminal record and counter-terrorism checks – this usually takes 8–15 weeks, depending on your personal history

* available to complete full-time training for your first six weeks, even if you've chosen to work part-time thereafter.

What you can expect in return

With our new package, you'll receive £14.21 an hour when you join. You’ll then receive salary increases on your first and second-year work anniversaries, taking your hourly rate to at least £15.23 once you have been with us for two years. That means you can have clarity and confidence about the pay you’ll receive throughout your first 24 months at Heathrow.
