Job Specification: Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract)

Contract Duration: 6 months

Rate: £40-£50 per hour (Outside IR35)

Location: Manchester (3 days on-site per week)

Sector: Space & Defence Projects

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for a 6-month contract to work on cutting-edge projects within the space and defence sectors. The role will involve designing complex mechanical systems, including electronics packaging, from concept through to delivery, ensuring robust solutions for high-performance applications.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and deliver mechanical designs for space and defence projects, with a focus on electronics packaging.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design integration.

Perform engineering calculations and simulations (e.g. FEA, CFD) to validate designs.

Produce detailed 3D models, drawings, and documentation.

Provide input into project planning, cost estimation, and timelines.

Key Requirements:

Proven experience in mechanical design, ideally within the space or defence sectors.

Proficiency in SolidWorks and Vault.

Strong understanding of electronics packaging, engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.

Experience with FEA/CFD analysis tools.

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
