Job Summary

The Theatre Support Worker assists the surgical team in ensuring that the operating theatre is prepared and maintained for surgeries. The role involves working closely with surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgery.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Operative Duties

- *Preparation of Operating Theatre:* Ensure that the operating theatre is clean, sterilized, and equipped with the necessary instruments and supplies for the scheduled procedures.

- *Patient Preparation:* Assist in transporting patients to the theatre and help in positioning them for surgery. Ensure that patients are comfortable and informed about the procedures.

- *Equipment Checks:* Verify that all surgical instruments and equipment are functioning correctly and are in good working condition.

Intra-Operative Duties

- *Assisting Surgical Team:* Provide support to the surgical team during operations by passing instruments, holding retractors, and ensuring that the surgical field remains sterile.

- *Monitoring Supplies:* Keep track of surgical supplies and instruments, ensuring that there are enough materials available during the procedure.

- *Patient Monitoring:* Assist in monitoring the patient's vital signs and general condition during surgery, under the supervision of qualified medical personnel.

Post-Operative Duties

- *Post-Surgery Care:* Help in transferring patients from the operating theatre to the recovery area. Assist in monitoring patients as they recover from anesthesia.

- *Cleaning and Restocking:* Ensure that the operating theatre is cleaned and restocked with necessary supplies after each surgery.

- *Documentation:* Assist in maintaining accurate records of procedures and any supplies used during surgeries.

Skills and Qualifications

- *Education:* High school diploma or equivalent. Additional certifications in healthcare support or operating department support are advantageous.

- *Experience:* Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in an operating theatre or surgical environment, is preferred.

- *Technical Skills:* Knowledge of surgical instruments and sterile procedures. Basic understanding of anatomy and medical terminology.

- *Interpersonal Skills:* Strong communication skills, ability to work as part of a team, and empathetic patient care.

- *Physical Stamina:* Ability to stand for long periods, move patients, and handle heavy equipment.

Working Conditions

- *Environment:* The job is performed in a hospital operating theatre setting. It involves exposure to surgical environments, including sterile fields, blood, and other bodily fluids.

- *Hours:* Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
