Residential Support Worker

Key Responsibilities:

1. *Direct Care and Support*:

- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.

- Support residents with mobility and physical activities, including exercises and recreational activities.

- Provide personal care as needed, ensuring residents’ dignity and privacy.

2. *Health and Safety*:

- Monitor and report any changes in residents’ health and well-being to healthcare professionals.

- Administer medications according to prescribed schedules and maintain accurate medication records.

- Ensure a safe and clean living environment by performing light housekeeping duties and maintenance tasks.

3. *Emotional and Social Support*:

- Build positive relationships with residents, offering companionship and emotional support.

- Encourage and assist residents in participating in social and recreational activities.

- Facilitate communication between residents, families, and healthcare providers.

4. *Behavioral Support*:

- Implement individualized care plans and behavioral management strategies.

- Assist residents in developing coping skills and managing behaviors effectively.

- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support when necessary.

5. *Life Skills Training*:

- Help residents develop and enhance life skills, such as cooking, budgeting, and personal hygiene.

- Support residents in achieving their personal goals and promoting independence.

- Assist with job readiness and employment support when applicable.

6. *Documentation and Reporting*:

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of residents’ progress, behaviors, and any incidents.

- Complete daily logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.

- Participate in care planning meetings and contribute to the development and review of care plans.

Skills and Qualifications:

- *Education*: High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in social work, psychology, or a related field is advantageous.

- *Certifications*: CPR and First Aid certification are typically required; additional certifications in crisis intervention or mental health support are beneficial.

- *Experience*: Previous experience in a caregiving, support, or residential care role is preferred.

- *Skills*:

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trusting relationships.

- Strong problem-solving and crisis management abilities.

- Organizational skills and attention to detail.

- Physical stamina and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
