About this child: Freddie, a gentle and thoughtful 10-year-old, loves reading, space, nature, Minecraft, vehicles, gadgets, and Lego. Following a road traffic accident in 2021, Freddie experienced a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), resulting in left-sided hemiplegia, significant fatigue, and cognitive challenges, including issues with attention and concentration. Freddie also faces speech and language challenges and significant anxiety, particularly around school. His anxiety and selective eating patterns are being further assessed, and he’s learning to manage new changes with support. Freddie is open and articulate about his feelings, often sharing his experiences and challenges, making a supportive presence especially valuable.

Overview of role: We’re seeking a compassionate and patient *Female SEN Nanny to help Freddie navigate his day-to-day routine, offering vital support as he works through both physical and emotional challenges. Freddie’s anxiety means he’ll benefit from a consistent, understanding presence, so patience and trust-building are essential in the early stages. Your role will center on Freddie’s mental and emotional wellbeing, and you’ll play an active part in implementing therapy recommendations with creativity and empathy, including strategies to help him feel grounded. During school holidays and weekends, you’ll have the freedom to encourage Freddie’s interests in fun and engaging ways, both at home and in the community. Light housekeeping and meal prep may also be required, especially on days when Freddie is fatigued. The offered rate is £20.80 on weekdays and £22.80 Gross Per Hour on weekends, with some flexibility during term time.

Who this job would suit: This role would suit someone with experience supporting children with additional needs, particularly those with anxiety or emotional health challenges. If you are a student or Teaching Assistant passionate about mental health support in children, this role is ideal for you. Knowledge of TBI is a plus, but most important is your willingness to adapt therapeutic recommendations to engage Freddie in ways that build confidence, self-regulation, and calm. We’re looking for someone warm, patient, and approachable who can offer a safe, steady presence.

What’s great about this job: This is a meaningful opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a young child and his family. You’ll be welcomed into a relaxed, friendly household and have the chance to observe and learn from therapy sessions, such as occupational and speech therapy. This role offers a great chance to apply your skills in anxiety support in a way that’s impactful and hands-on.
