ANTIQUE FRENCH BAKER’S MOULD, CAKE, BRIOCHE, SPONGE, BREAD MOLD, GLAZED CLAY, KUGELHOPF ALSACE - 1800s - REDUCED!

Acquired from an antique dealer in the Haute Marne region of Champagne, this is a hand thrown clay baker’s mould known as Kugelhopf and used predominantly in the Alsace region of eastern France.
The rustic nature of it’s construction is typical and dates it to the mid 1800s.
Now worn but still sound with a thick, bright, patterned glaze, it make great decorative piece of French kitchenalia…

In good, sound, antique condition with wear consistent with age and use - please examine photos carefully for condition.

This was a little dirty and dusty on acquisition but has since been thoroughly washed (there were remnants of sponge stuck to the inside).

The surfaces are sound with no cracks but some wear and a small chip to the edge - see photos.

The glazed pattern is worn but still bright and thick.

The interior is in similar condition.

Of clay construction which is totally glazed in an attractive multi coloured style.

There is a hole to the side which is used for hanging (a piece of twine is attached for that purpose.

I can find no maker’s marks.

Measures approximately:
16.5 cm diameter, 9 cm tall,
Weighs about 540 g.

The wine bottle is to show scale and not included!
