If you are planning on applying for a PCO licence to the Transport For London (TFL), you will need to prove that you meet the English language skills. Transport for London (TFL) has announced that all new applicants, and existing private hire drivers applying to renew their licence for the first time since the introduction of this new requirement, must now meet the equivalent of a B1 English language requirement. English language requirement ELR test will cover Listening and Speaking Assessments. Along with ELR you need to show the understanding about Safety, equality and regulatory understanding requirement which short form is SERU which covers Reading and Writing. At Canary Wharf Academy we run B1 English and SERU training almost every week to prepare the candidates for their test.  

TFL website says: An English language requirement applies to all applications for private hire drivers licences received by TfL on, or after, 14 October 2016. This includes applications for both renewal and new licences. It is essential for public safety that all licensed private hire drivers are able to communicate in English at an appropriate level.TFL website also says: We have introduced a requirement for applicants for a London private hire vehicle (PHV) driver’s licence to demonstrate an understanding of safety, equality and regulatory matters. The requirement came into force on 1 October 2021 and it applies to both new applicants and those applying to renew their licence.

It is essential that London PHV drivers have an appropriate understanding of safety, equality and the regulatory requirements that apply to them. This helps ensure public safety and will enhance levels of customer service. At Canary Wharf Academy we run ELR English and SERU (Safety, equality and regulatory understanding) training in different areas in Greater London almost every week to prepare the candidates for their test.

Module Covered: 
ELR English training/test covers 2 modules:
• Listening Assessment
• Speaking Assessments

SERU training/test covers 2 modules:
• Reading Assessment
• Writing Assessments

Course Fee: 
Our special price is £150.00 (All inclusive, no hidden charges). You can pay a deposit of £50.00 and pay the balance of £100.00 on the day of the training.

Course Duration: 
We offer a 1 day training course, from 10am – 5pm, We run the training 7 days a week. During the training session the tutor will go through with exam preparation and mock tests for ELR and SERU. After 1 day training you also will have access to the student portal for more practice at home.
