Welcome to this AMAZING and rare sight of a car! The Eagle Talon. Also known as a Mitsubishi Eclipse or DSM in the US.
Open to offers but please come view the car first!!!
PS, SORRY for the long read but its important to know the FULL details on this and my workings on this to get it running perfectly once again. Details on this later on for you to read up on.
These are rare cars and hard to find in great condition considering these are now over 30+ years old!!!
This is a great example and has low milage for the age of the car. It has about 67,450 miles now (will slightly climb if used a bit). 67,142 was at the last MOT in Oct
What you have is a 92 FWD Automatic with a 4G63 engine which need’s NO introduction! This is the LAST version of the stronger 6 bolt cranks/blocks as its just before the cross over year when they swapped to the 7 bolt cranks/blocks. These 6 bolts came with stronger rods. The 4G63 is a 2.0 Non Turbo with 16 Valves and fuel injection. You can add a Turbo with the supporting mods/fueling and ignition and then you would make it a “TSI” which is the TURBO version.
The bodywork is in good condition but does have signs of age and dinks/scratches in some areas but nothing that’s NOT easily repairable! The paint is the factory R87 red and have a full paint correction during the summer of 2024. Another would be ideal and then a ceramic would really finish it off for a long time. It’s a 2 tone Red / Black combo which is a common feature of the time and really stands out and it is a 90’s car so of the time period.
The interior is Real clean and has the felt seats all around. All grey and the seats have 90’s patterns on them as you would expect from the ERA.
(Details on getting this working after a few years) please read ALSL below.
When I bought this car it had starting issues and struggled to run, When and IF it started It would be funky at best. It was also stuck in 3rd gear (auto limp mode) so this was not great. The drive was soft (bad shocks) and some other mini issues.
To resolve these issues I went through the WHOLE car as I own and work on MANY DSM’s in the UK so I have a good idea of them generally. This is just SOME of the list of making this car work once again properly.
• PRE cat years so NO cat to worry about and passes MOT fine without one!
• Classic car so can be insured very cheaply for the year with milage cap and agreed value.
• Rebuilt the auto valve body / installed a shift kit, springs and balls and inspected the clutch packs (all looked good) New trans fluid and filter.
• Installed a shifting kit which allows manual shifting via button inside, (The TCU is bad and they are HARD to find in good condition!) So this is currently the ONLY way to shift gears! Gear display is inside the car also and could be converted to paddles if required.
• Engines ECU had some leaking caps and bad tracks on the ECU so this was sent back to the USA where it was fully restored and fixed, tested and once in the car starts perfectly and runs very well!
• Shocks have all been replace with KYB OEM type shocks and upper mounts so now it drives a lot better. (bushes are old so possibly something later on to swap to some poly bushes) but currently now is perfectly fine and safe
• Refreshed the brakes and fluids (Has EBC slotted rotors and green stuff pads all around)
• Blasted, painted the wheels in a 2K metallic silver wheel paint as they were corroding and the polished lips oxidized to much.
• NEW Vredestein Ultrac tires
• The engine has had a full work over, This includes a long list of, Fuel filter, Timing belt (Kevlar RED TODA belt and balance belts, Aisin water pump OEM, Aisin hydraulic tensioner OEM, all new NTN/GMB pulleys, new oil pressure sensor, Valve cover gaskets/seals. Repainted the valve cover as that was chipping. Full fluids, coolant, oil and filters. New thermostat and coolant sensors.
• The throttle body has also been rebuilt with new seals and gaskets, I also did the FIAV bypass plate as the FIAV as they get old does not work correctly so This just needs a bit more warming up when cold before moving off. This also included a NEW ISC (idle speed control) as the old one was faulty. I also converted to a 4 pin TPS from a later 2G DSM as this makes everything internal vs having an external sensor. This is much more stable and long lasting.
• The Downpipe had a crack on the support mounting tab so I welded this up, The headers and DP are made from pace setter which is an aftermarket set to help with flow and are rare to find now also! Once all fixed I blasted the headers and DP and painted them in a VHT exhaust paint in black, All new gaskets and sealant used to seal the joints and locking washers and nuts for the headers to head mounting. The DP back system is all stainless and is aftermarket and does make it sound really nice! Deep tone with dual tips make it look very OEM like finish.
• General engine bay clean up, remove brackets and parts that were corroded or showing signs of age and blasted and painted in a stone chip black
• Imported a few OEM brackets that were missing, some were for the STOCK intake system (the car came with an aftermarket intake kit and was old and filter had it, so the OEM system went back on of course with a NEW air filter!
• Modern LED sidelights installed as the previous ones were dim and the housing had cracked. These are super bright and help be seen more.
• V5 log book is now perfectly up to date with the CORRECT vin number, Engine code and car make and model! This was all wrong previously, So I got onto DVLA to sort this out to match.
• Passed the MOT in Oct 2024
I have FULL picture documentation of this process for this chassis! It’s also a light restoration to a STOCK level as ALL stock appearing parts are back on the car!
Now for the minor parts to note for later on!
• Suspension bushes are old and softer but still safe and not an issue with the MOT in the UK. Car passed in Oct 2024 so MOT is fresh and current.
• The TCU does NOT work but you may find someone to fix it IF they can! If so then the shift can easily be removed and plugs put back into the stock TCU ( I made sure to wire in the shift kit to NOT destroy the wiring and make it easy for removal!!!
• Rear headed screen is not working
• Passenger side auto seat belt retractor system (this is automatic belts for your chest) is not working but can be used in its failsafe mode still, (the sensor in the door lock is not working but can be replaced with a used working one and this will solve the problem, its common to go bad.
• While paint and body work is good there are some dinks and age related marks that might be addressed should you want a perfect finish.
• SHOULD you wish to look into the TURBO option I can discuss this with you as it is possible with a bunch of parts safely. Happy to discuss to guide you on this path so please ask when viewing the car
Thank you for reading this LONG-detailed list but it’s worth noting everything down so you know what’s been done and love and attention/time that’s been put into this 1G Talon!
Whom ever gets this is going to be very lucky and enjoy this DSM! We are a great community and you can join DSMtuners also to get help and advice from many of us.
Viewing is welcome upon arranged dates and times. Test drives are possible WITH valid insurance and please show this before hand to make sure its covered as it IS a Left Hand Drive car (LHD) any damage from the test drive IF any will be coverable by yourself.
The car is ready NOW to view but wont be sold till mid Feb as I will want to do a final check over again. Its located in St Albans currently in Hertfordshire.
Please do get in touch if you wish to come view it
Thank you
