1977 MG Midget 1500cc Damask Red £6,495 ono Low Milage, Huge History Folder. 1 Previous owner. Digital scan of history available upon request.
25,721 miles, odometer was replaced at 19,825 in 1994 so showing 5,896 on the clock, verified by impressive history folder, more info below.
This is a well presented car, great fun, tax / MOT / ULEZ exempt and cheap to insure.
The car was inherited from my grandfather who passed away last year and it appears to have been well maintained and looked after with little expense spared. From reading through the history, before it was purchased by my grandad in 2021, it was owned from new in 1977 by a lady owner, who used the same garage for most of it's life, original order form and 1977 invoice is present. There are invoices with the odometer change noted in 1994 so am confident that the milage of 25,721 is genuine.
Despite the car no longer needing an MOT, my grandad had the car put though a test in April 2022 for peace of mind and it benefitted from the fitment of new brake calipers & pads at the same time. Mechanically, the car appears to be solid!
The car would not start when I collected it and so in October 2024, I installed a brand new starter motor, coil, points, distributor cap & ht leads and it now starts, drives (and stops!) very well indeed for a classic. After a couple of months sitting in the garage, even during the cold temperature over Christmas, It started first time on the key and it has not even been on a trickle charger!
The soft top is in good condition and the car also comes with a Lenham vinyl covered hardtop (Invoice from 1981 present). Interior is in good condition too as can be seen from the photographs but there is a bit of loose piping on the backrest of one of the seats. Also comes with a new, unused tonneau cover.
Body work is generally good but the boot lid panel is slightly faded. There are some light scratches, small dings and swirl marks as to be expected, small area of corrosion / paint bubbling on one of the rear arches and one of the doors but in no way the worst I have seen on a 70s car! The history file shows some paint / bodywork in the late 80s / early 90s. The wheels have recently been refurbished in the last 100 miles or so incl the spare which matches the rest of the wheels. It also has new tyres all around.
I have relisted the car as was previously advertised with 105k on the clock as presumed the odometer had already cycled through once (and assumed that it must have been very well looked after). To my surprise, when reviewing the history folder, the odometer change explains the condition of the car.
Original plan was to keep and enjoy the car however, have other classic projects on the go and have decided to sell in order to fund a garage lift.
I have tried to capture the car as best as I can in the photos however, viewing the car is welcomed and recommended. The car is currently garaged at my parent’s address about 15 minutes drive from Chepstow, South Wales.
Please note, the car is not currently insured and as such, short test drives will need to be carried out on a private lane.. unless you would like to temporarily insure.
Feel free to call or drop a text / WhatsApp on to discuss the car or arrange a viewing / inspection. I can send a 65 page scan of the car history plus additional photos and walkaround / car running videos via whatsapp.
Josh.
