Our Golf has the frugal 1.4 litre TSI engine - but don't let its compact size or god fuel economy fool you into thinking this car lacks performance - With 158bhp on tap via a quick-shifting DSG auto gearbox, this GT model has the performance to match its good-looks. It is also surprisingly practical for a convertible, with 4 seats and a good-sized boot. As with all VWs, the Golf convertible is constructed of high quality VW parts which are tried and tested, so ownership of these cars is a painless experience.
Fast, fun and nimble - The Golf GT convertible is the perfect blend of practicality and excitement. Yes it's quick but the running costs are low enough to make it a serious 'daily driver'. It's a great all-rounder which does the simple things with ease and when you want a few tricks it can do them too. Our example here has an extremely high specification with a purposeful R-Line bodykit, 19" alloy wheels and twin exhaust tailpipes ensuring it really will turn heads wherever you go. The car also has duel zone climatic air conditioning and cruise control, which makes light work of long motorway journeys.
The convertible roof on this car is immaculate and is fully electric, taking just mere 2nds to perform its action. The golfs roof is multi-layered and very thick so it insulates the cars interior well and ensures there is no more wind noise than in the hard-top Golf. Having test driven this car over a 70 mile journey on various roads including the motorway, I felt it was a highly capable car for any road or journey.
The Golf GT is quick, powerful, feisty when pushed yet frugal and a low CO2 emitter when driven sensibly ensuring the road tax remains a relatively sensible £210 a year! All-in-all, this car is a great package and is more sophisticated than its rivals as it offers so much more than just all-out fun. It's very grown-up for a convertible and it feels a class above anything else in this size-range.
Despite being on the larger 19" ally wheels, our Golf rides well, with suspension that balances comfort and handling perfectly. Living with this car would not be a chore as it soaks up bumps quite well. The sports seats specifically for the GT model combine, leather, cloth and Alcantara into their design, with the result being a seat that looks fantastic, is comfortable and has raised sides to hold you in place when driving enthusiastically. The steering wheel has both rake and reach adjustment so it is easy for you to fins the perfect driving position.
As you can hopefully appreciate from our photos and video, this is an immaculate example - even under the bonnet is immaculate. It has a high specification and is easy to drive...
